Trust and Obey

Tonight I read Jeremiah 17-18 and these verses stood out to me.

27 But if you do not obey me to keep the Sabbath day holy by not carrying any load as you come through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle an unquenchable fire in the gates of Jerusalem that will consume her fortresses.' "

8 and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned.

10 and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.

11 "Now therefore say to the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, 'This is what the LORD says: Look! I am preparing a disaster for you and devising a plan against you. So turn from your evil ways, each one of you, and reform your ways and your actions.'

In these verses God commands the people to keep the sabbath and says if they do he will not bring them to ruin, but if they do not obey he will "Kindle an unquenchable fire" that will consume them. I don't know about you but that would be pretty good motivation for me to change! Sadly easier said than done because God goes on to say...

12 But they will reply, 'It's no use. We will continue with our own plans; each of us will follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.' "

they give up!

I recall recently learning that often times Christians think they are defeated by their sin. But the great thing is we are not! God even defeated death for us so "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus for the law of the spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death" Today I want to encourage you to try, try again, the only true failure is when you fail to try. Know that God wants to bless us, but we have to do our part, we must obey him.

One last thing check these out!
