John 15:18-25
“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it
hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As
it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.
That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not
greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.
If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this
way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. If I had not
come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no
excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. If I had not
done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As
it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. But this
is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’
Today I have been watching the news to keep
myself updated on the anti-American protests. As I watch the stories unfold, I
am saddened for those who have died. My heart goes out to their families and
friends. I am also reminded of the importance to pray for our nation and its
leaders. I ask that God would grant our leaders wisdom to make decisions. I
pray for peace where it is possible, and victory for God's glory. Jesus be with
those who are still in danger, grant them peace. Lastly, I pray for our enemies
that their hearts may be changed and that they may know your unconditional
love.
Matthew 5:42-48
Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn
away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your
neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for
those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He
causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the
righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will
you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your
own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be
perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
