Tonight I read Jeremiah Chapter Four. A couple of verses that stood out to me were...
14 O Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart and be saved.
How long will you harbor wicked thoughts?
22 "My people are fools;
they do not know me.
They are senseless children;
they have no understanding.
They are skilled in doing evil;
they know not how to do good."
God was telling Jerusalem what their punishment would be if they did not turn from their ways. It made me really sad to think that God said verse 22. But I think it is good to focus on it because we often overlook the tough stuff in the Bible. So what should I do with verse 22? - no I did not meant to rhyme there -well before I get to that this is what the devotional read -
27Having brought the apostles, they made them appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. 28"We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name," he said. "Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood."
29Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men! 30The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead—whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.
32We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him."
Then it asked three questions,
1. Where do we find our satisfaction and hope?
2. Whose applause do we look for?
3. What can you do this week to prove to the world that you would rather obey God than man?
Now, after reading verse 22 i came back to the third question. I've probably said this before, but I feel that often times we need to learn things that we already know. We know that nothing in this world is better than God, yet we do not act this way. Believe me I understand easier said than done. But how sad is it to think that we have this knowledge given to us yet we choose not to use it. It's like knowing your on fire and that you have an extinguisher in your hand but you choose not to use it. How dumb is that! Don't you want to save yourself?
Lets use what we got. This week show the world that God is worth more than anything. How? well, lets see, watching entertainment choices, ie music, books and tv shows, the words that we use, the attitudes we have...
Go be set apart!
