Today in church we discussed the relationship of David and Jonathan. We talked about how special there relationship was and how much of a rarity it is to have that kind of friendship. After talking in church today I immediately felt blessed to have such good friends. Especially a friend like Jonathan who I am able to tell anything to. If you explore the chapters of 1 Samuel you will discover exactly what I mean. Jonathan was a faithful, honest, righteous, man of God who would have given his life for David. In fact, he kind of did. Jonathan accepted the fact that God chose David as king and instead of being angry he chose to become David's closest heart. In the end Jonathan dies in battle with his father Saul and David goes on to be king.
All of this to share that tonight I received one of the highest compliments of my life. One of my dearest friends thanked me for being her Jonathan. I feel so blessed to be able to share in such a special friendship. At the same time I feel so humbled because I don't feel that I am anywhere close to being as good a friend as Jonathan although one day I hope I can be. David and Jonathan
